Monday Cover-Up: Week 7 feat. The Anix

Indie Music Magazine

We’re at Week 7 now in our Monday Cover-up series. This week we bring you a cover from one of our very own featured artists, The Anix.

As far as iconic bands go, The Cure is pretty high up on the list. Robert Smith’s voice is instantly identifiable and a challenge for any singer to match.

However, The Anix took The Cure’s 1994 track “Burn,” part of the soundtrack for the movie The Crow, and created their own version that stays largely true to the original while building upon it.

The Anix’s version, true to their general musical approach, creates a more cinematic version which is fitting for a song originally created for a movie. The difference is particularly notable in the addition of strings in the chorus.

Additionally, lead man Brandon Smith sounds incredibly similar to Robert Smith, in all the right ways. Take a listen and see for yourself.

What do you think? Better than the original? How does Brandon Smith stack up to Robert Smith? Sound off in the comments below!
