Monday Cover-Up: Week 11 feat. Jen Chou

Indie Music Magazine

Yes, we realize it’s Tuesday and this is Monday Cover-Up, but we missed yesterday so we owe you.

Plus, you really won’t mind once you listen to the cover we have for you today. It’s that great.

Today’s pick is a cover of Madeon’s “The City” by California-based singer Jen Chou. Just in case you don’t know, Madeon is a French DJ/producer who’s played at major festivals like Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, Lollapalooza and Ultra Music Festival, basically some of the largest festivals in the world.

Hes also opened for Swedish House Mafia and worked with Lady Gaga on two of her tracks. Oh, and he’s also only 19. WHAT? Yeah. The kid is Jesus with turntables.

You know who else is fantastic? Jen Chou. I’m pretty sure her (almost) 1000 YouTube subscribers would agree with. She takes an electronic song (I did mention that Madeon is a DJ) and strips it down to an acoustic version, while gender flipping the vocals (the original features vocals by Zak Waters).

There really isn’t much more to be said about it. We liked it so much that we decided to write Monday Cover-Up on a Tuesday instead of waiting until next week. Take a listen and tell us what you think!

What do you think? Would you like to hear more from Jen in the future? Let us know in the comments below!
